2013Stillwater Syrah

The 2013 Single Barrel Syrah was crafted exclusively from Stillwater Creek in the Columbia Valley. Farmed using sustainable practices, the vines were limited to one or two clusters per shoot for maximum concentration. They were then hand-harvested over several early mornings in late October. Upon arriving in the winery, the fruit was hand-sorted, berry-sorted, and then 100% whole cluster fermented exclusively in stainless steel tanks. Using only the free-run wine, it was then moved to 2 custom 500L French oak puncheons for 33 months of cellaring (one new puncheon). Without racking, the flavors were compressed for an old-world profile. The 2 puncheons were bottled, without fining or filtration, in September 2016 and resulted in 97 cases.

Tasting Notes

From the Royal Slope, the 2013 Syrah is just ever so slightly lighter at the rim than the 2012, yet sports the same saturated ruby/purple color. It offers more cured meats, tapenade, ground pepper and tobacco leaf notes, with a rich, sexy core of plum and blueberry fruit. Broad, expansive, and sexy on the palate, with tons of fruit, it stays lively, balanced and fresh, and is another beautiful wine. It's much more evolved than the 2012, but both are beautiful wines.
